GENERAL INFORMATION

Çankaya University Department of Mathematics and Computer Science was founded in 1998. It is one of the first Departments of its kind established in Turkey.

Modern technological society has various fields that require specialists in mathematics and computer science. As a result, in the coming years, the number of job opportunities will increase for those who know how to use mathematics for the real life problems. Employment forecasts predict very good careers for those who are capable and well-prepared in mathematics and computer science.

Our students have the opportunity to study the methods of applied mathematics and computer science, to learn and to tackle difficult problems with the help of the valuable tools given by the mathematical modeling approach. The new program emphasizes applications of mathematics and computer science in engineering and applied sciences and concentrates on real-world applications.

Our students have the oprtunity to complete double major and minor programs in Electronics and Communication Engineering, Economics, Management and other departments in addition to Computer Engineering.

Our department is responsible from the Physics course and the Physics Laboratory in addition to providing mathematical service courses for he needs of other departments. Our research areas are concentrated in applied mathematics, analysis and conmputer science. 5 international scientific conferences have abeen organized by our department in the years 2004, 2006, 2008, and 2010.

There are many universities that we signed a bilateral agreement in the Erasmus programme of European Union. Our department students have the opportunity to take courses for one semester in Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Romania and other countries.

The areas our graduates are employed:

  • As System administrators, software experts, Java programmer, Project developer, System analyser in state institutions, ministries, Private and banking sectors, Aselsan, Havelsan, TÜİK, defense industry, finance, insurance and stock market.
  • In addition to these, information center of banks thet require security,Administrator candidate in banks, Credit analyzer in banks, High positions in private firms, (manager, unit chief etc.)

The department offers two programs giving graduate degrees that are in line with the demand of mathematics and engineering students and needs of industrial sector of Turkey. These are:

  • Master of Science (M.S.) in Mathematics and Computer Science (With Thesis)
  • Master of Science (M.S.) in Mathematics and Computer Science (Non Thesis)

Both programs have been designed to motivate students who have an interest in advanced study and to prepare them to meet the specialized personnel requirements of modern industry, commerce and education. Courses are carefully selected from different branches of mathematics and computer sciences to provide a program as flexible as possible.

The objective of non-thesis program is to provide courses in mathematics and computer science to graduates of arts and sciences and engineering who may already have jobs and who aim to gain further education in mathematics and computer science. Candidates who are found to be qualified for the coursework are directly accepted to the program. Others are required to complete a preparatory program in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Graduate School.

Master of Science (M.S.) in Information Technology 2009-2010

The widespread use of information technologies and systems in all sectors has created the need for corparations and state institutions to hire professionals experienced in this area. Information Technologies graduate program provides opportunity for graduates of all disciplines. The target applicants are persons experienced in information sciences and willing to enrich their background or those who are at the beginning of their career and want to make good start.

The department of Mathematics and Computers offers two programs giving graduate degrees that are in line with the demand of information technology. These are:

  • Master of Science (M.S.) in Information Technology (With Thesis)
  • Master of Science (M.S.) in Information Technology (Non Thesis)

The program has two choices for the attendees; with-thesis and without-thesis. The structure of the program may be adapted according to requirements of the students. If the applicant has a strong background in the subject area, he can concentrate on the more complex courses and projects. On the other hand, the program contains also proper courses for newly graduates of different disciplines.
